And so we come to the end of another year of school. With memories of fun and learning, we go on to the next year. We bring with us the information and experiences for this past year. I hope to see you all next year, and I look forward to all the thing we learn next year.
9th Grade Academy: Food Science
We'll be preparing and serving at the salad bar. All the while we will be experiencing what it is like to work and run a small restaurant. Students will be taking inventory and learning the way of the cook.

Dangerous Food Safety Mistakes
A single mistake in the process of cooking and lead to serious damage. Something as simple as washing ones hands can prevent the spread of illness and disease. It only takes 15 to 20 uncooked cells to spread Salmonella, a deadly illness.
Here are a few mistakes that are commonly made, and ways to prevent them.
Tasting food to see if it's still good.
Why this is bad: You can't taste the bacteria that causes food poison. Consuming only a small amount can lead to illness.
Solution: Throw food out after 7-10 days of opening it if it's refrigerated.
Putting cooked meat back on the plate that held raw meat.
Why this is bad: It defeats the purpose of cooking the meat to kill that bacteria that makes you sick.
Solution: Once you take the meat off the plate, wash it to save from dirtying another plate. If what you're doing requires all your attention, get some else to do it for it.
